Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner: Fighting the Crusty-Dusty Critics and Naysayers One Collaboration at a Time

Here’s the problem with conferences. You’ve been to a great session, and your fellow librarians have shared something really cool they’ve done. You think, “I would love to do something like that at my library!” But then you remember your dean or your faculty or your coworkers have all the open-mindedness of the dad from “Dirty Dancing.” So your thought process takes a nosedive: “I would love to do something like that at my library, but my [insert your naysayer here] would never let me.” But what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if you had the confidence to take the leap into Johnny’s arms and say, “I’ve had the time of my life, and I’ve never felt this way before?”
In this session, we will explore strategies to unleash your inner-Frances “Baby” Houseman and aggressively pursue collaboration with even the crustiest-dustiest critics of library services. Topics will include being comfortable in your own skin, ways to change the conversation, asking the right questions, and building relationships. There will be an element of movement involved in this session, and accommodations will be made for those with limited mobility.
