Meet us in the rec room –we’re playing Disaster Planning & Recovery in the Library, the game that forces you to think on your feet as water, power failures, and mold threaten to overwhelm your collections and library spaces. Are you prepared? Shall we play a game?
In this session, attendees will play a board game focused on disaster recovery implementation in libraries. This is not a session in which disaster plans will be drafted. No policy writing! The game follows a classic board game formula in which play is driven by a series of action cards. Attendees will not play as individuals in this game, but as a team with each person taking on the role of a different library or institutional staff member who may be responsible for disaster recovery, compelling the team to consider disaster recovery from multiple perspectives.
Attendees will leave this session with practical knowledge for handling library disasters, approaches and techniques that can be brought back to their own institutions. Attendees will also be given a booklet detailing recovery techniques for a number of library disasters. And there’s a bonus! The game itself will be made available as a PDF so attendees can use it in their own institutions for staff training.
